Original Sadanobu II (1848 - 1940) Japanese Woodblock Print
Scenes from the Satsuma Rebellion, 1877

Comments - Interesting triptych depicting several different episodes from the Satsuma Rebellion. At top center and through at band of smoke that runs across all three panels, rebel samurai battle with Imperial Army troops. At right, a shot explodes in an orange burst against a samurai's chest, sending him tumbling backwards. At upper right, Saigo Takamori, leader of the rebels, sits in a chair wearing a military uniform as a samurai gripping a drumstick prepares to strike the drum hanging overhead. An intriguing design with a wealth of detail.

Artist - Sadanobu II (1848 - 1940)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 27 7/8"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. Small loss, a few wormholes, repaired. Slight toning, soiling, and ink offsetting, a few creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
