New Yoshiwara, circa 1839 - 1842 - Lovely panoramic view of the New Yoshiwara as evening falls. Low-lying clouds tinged with blue and rose drift across the rooftops of the teahouses below, where patrons and entertainers gather on the upper story verandahs. Red paper lanterns hang from the eaves, and blossoming cherry trees frame the scene at lower left. Near the horizon, figures in silhouette travel along the road leading out to the new pleasure district. An attractive design, nicely colored. Also in the collection of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. We've only come across this design once before.
