Sawamura Tossho II in His Dressing Room, 1861

Comments - Terrific image of Sawamura Tossho II in his dressing room, pausing to write a verse on a card, his brush poised in mid-air. He wears a red striped kimono with a blue and green geometric pattern on the sleeves over a red under robe, a blue and white towel draped over his shoulder. A small purple cloth patch is tied around his forehead before he puts on the wig sitting atop a stand at left. Just below, a large kettle rests on a brazier. A fantastic and a rare look at a kabuki actor backstage, beautifully detailed.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14" x 9 7/8" + left margin as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Backed with paper. Very small wormhole, repaired. Slight soiling, a few creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
