Onoe Kikugoro as Tsunade - Selection of Thirty-six Magic Flower Poems - This interesting series by Kunichika pairs kabuki portraits with illustrations of flowers, accompanied by a poetry verse. The expressive figures are set against a bold background divided diagonally, with a tie-dyed red textile pattern below and a lovely view of a blossoming plant above. Nicely detailed with delicate embossing in the white background of the floral inset. Many designs also include burnishing or metallic pigment. A handsome and unusual series, with vibrant color and an interesting format.
