Hirose Kazuma in Snow

Series; New Tales of Honor (Meiyo shindan), 1875

Hirose Kazuma in Snow - Fantastic, if rather gory, depiction of Hirose Kazuma from a series done for the newspaper "Meiyo shindan" focusing on heroes from the recent civil wars leading up to the Meiji Restoration. The bloodied hero is shown fighting at the Sakuradamon gate at Edo Castle during the assassination of his master, Ii Naosuke. He grips his sword above his head with both hands as objects fly through the air under a heavy snowfall, an overturned brazier sending up a cloud of ashes. Kazuma was known for his martial arts skills. A dramatic and memorable portrait.

Artist - Yoshitoshi (1839 - 1892)

Image Size - 14" x 9 5/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Small tear at edge, repaired. A few creases and small spots. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
