Inuta Kobungo

Series; The Eight Dog Heroes

Inuta Kobungo - Handsome kabuki portrait of Inuta Kobungo, one of the famous Eight Dog Heroes from the tale "Nanso Satomi Hakkenden." He scowls with rage as he grips a bundle wrapped in plaid cloth under his arm, his other hand resting on the hilt of his sword. He wears a purple kimono patterned with writing and paw prints over a red under robe, his hair pulled into a sloppy knot at the side of his head with a few loose wisps, giving him a disheveled appearance. Behind him several egrets or herons rise up from the grasses of a marsh, taking flight into the night sky. A handsome design with fine bokashi shading in the background and the title cartouche.

Artist - Ginko (active 1874 - 1897)

Image Size - 13 1/4" x 9" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. A couple small tears at edges, repaired. Slight soling and ink offsetting, a few creases, rubbing at edges. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
