Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of Kawarazaki Gonjuro I as Abe no Yasuna, standing outside the doorway of his home. He watches with quiet concern as he sees his wife inside writing a farewell message on a shoji screen. She is actually a fox that he once rescued from hunters, who returned to him in human form to become his wife to repay his kindness. After their child caught sight of her in her true form, she decided that she must leave him. Yasuna holds one sleeve to his chin, the other hand resting against a wooden post, maple leaves framing the night sky above his head. Nicely composed and detailed.
