Comments - Dramatic depiction of the Takeda clan warriors in battle, suffering casualties during the fight. At right, a battered warrior sits on the carriage of a cannon, his armor ripped and torn. He is bleeding heavily from wounds to the body and head, but he triumphantly holds the severe head of an enemy aloft on the end of his spear. Dead compatriots lie on the ground below, with another man prostrate at left. The two samurai in the center grimace as they look back over their shoulders at troops launching another attack, the foot soldiers followed by a general on horseback. The two cannons are not manned, and flames and smoke billow up into the night sky from the battlefield at left. Includes burnishing on the cannon at left and on armor and weapons. A bold design with expressive, realistic figures and a handsome composition. A terrific early Yoshitoshi samurai triptych, beautifully colored and in nice condition. A great choice for a collector.
