Series; Ten Physiognomic Aspects of Women
Publisher - Adachi from a rare series of Edo masterwork designs. Adachi publisher seal in margin or on reverse.
Adachi was one of the most respected publishers of the 20th century. Their woodblocks were printed to the highest standards with excellent color and fine detail. Founded in 1925, Adachi also chose interesting and varied subjects for their prints and was the only publisher of many famous old ukiyo-e images.
Beauty with Grinding Mill - A lovely informal portrait by Utamaro of a young housewife, her hair bundled high and covered in a towel. She’s seen holding a grinding mill used for a mundane daily kitchen task. However in this portrait, Utamaro shows the beauty with a pleasant, happy expression indicating that she enjoys the chore and cooking in the home. Wonderful Utamaro design and nice example of his less formal works. A great choice for display.
