Series; Famous Views of the Eastern Capital
Published by Kawaguchiya Shozo

Famous Views of the Eastern Capital - During his lifetime, Hiroshige produced multiple seperate series all entited "Famous Views of the Eastern Capital." In the early 20th century, Kawaguchiya Shozo, a publisher of many of Hiroshige's original works, set out to compile and reprint the best of these designs from Hiroshige's assorted "Famous Views."

The resulting series comprises some of the greatest of his Edo designs. These prints differ from other reprints from the "Famous Views of the Eastern Capital" because they unified the border style and cartouche location, omiting the scattered styles and margin choices of the originals. Many of them feature one of several "Kawaguchiya Shozo" seals in the margin, some do not.

These images are finely printed and beautifully preserved. Whether display or collecting, any of these designs would be a great choice.
