Fuwa Banzaemon and Courtesan

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of a courtesan and the evil samurai Fuwa Banzaemon in private quarters. The warrior leans back in bed and scratches his head as he watches the beauty. She smiles slyly as she looks over her shoulder, a roll of tissues caught between her teeth. She holds a folding fan in one hand and carries the samurai's two swords in her other. Behind the folding screen at left, a worried-looking samurai eavesdrops, his eyes wide. He wears full armor under a plaid kimono and holds a bamboo pole. The screen features a design of descending geese and autumn grasses framed by yellow clouds, and a stand at right holds jars and containers and a small figurine of a rabbit. Nakamura Utaemon IV plays Fuwa Banzaemon. Nice expressive figures with a handsome setting.
