Comments - Handsome kabuki portrait of Nakamura Shikan V as the woman warrior Tomoe Gozen in the play "Onna Shibaraku" at the Ichimuraza in November 1901. The drama is a parody of the famous "Shibaraku" with a woman in the lead role. She strikes a bold pose holding her fan in her outstretched hand as she looks up over her shoulder, smiling slightly. She wears the traditional rust colored robe over a white kimono with green birds in a diamond pattern and scattered cherry blossoms. She wears a black court cap with a branch of plum blossoms tucked into it, and clusters of small blue flowers adorn her hair. The shoulder and sleeve of her robe feature the crossed scroll crest of the Nakamura line of actors. A great bold image with the large figure spreading across the three panels. Nicely detailed with embossing in the white kimono trim and the white cord of the cap.
