The Courtesan Omotagawa of Daimonji-ya, circa 1830

Comments - Attractive portrait of the seated courtesan Omotagawa of Daimonji-ya playing shamisen. She looks up over her shoulder in surprise as she plucks the strings of the instrument, her mouth slightly agape and her brows furrowed. She wears a black outer robe edged with large red blossoms over a red and white tie-dyed kimono with a blue and gray striped border and collar, tied with a blue obi with brown floral medallions. Her hair is adorned with tortoiseshell combs and many hairpins. A wooden chest rests on the floor at left, and the cabinet behind her holds elegant lacquer boxes and blue and white porcelain containers. A charming design, nicely composed.

Artist - Sadatsuna (active circa 1830 - 1844)

Image Size - 14 3/8" x 9 3/4"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Backed with paper. A few wormholes, repaired. Slight toning and soiling, a few creases at edges, light stain. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
