Courtesans and Angry Man, 1864

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of a man scowling angrily at a courtesan as he holds a signpost or some kind of marker on a long board. The beauty at left gives him a saucy grin as she looks up from the letter she is writing, a brush in one hand and the long message in the other. She wears a striking red kimono with a large eagle over the shoulders. The courtesan at right watches the pair with interest, one hand tucked into her impressive dragon patterned robe. From left, the actors are Ichimura Uzaemon XIII, Ichikawa Kodanji IV, and Onoe Eizaburo 4.5. A handsome design with large, nicely detailed figures, and bokashi shading in the night sky.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 28 3/4"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three attached panels, backed with paper. A few tiny holes, repaired. Slight toning and soiling. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
