Kabuki Portraits on Fans

Comments - Great kabuki double portrait by Osaka artist Shigeharu featuring the figures on two fans. The top image shows a samurai with a worried scowl, his brows furrowed as he stares ahead. He wears a black brocade coat with a pleated collar over a green print kimono and a suit of armor, one hand resting one the hilt of his sword. The uchiwa or flat fan below depicts a glaring warrior with short hair growing out atop his head and his hair pulled into a knot at the back of his head, giving him a slightly disheveled appearance. He is dressed in a blue geometric print kimono over armor, a white sash tied around his head. A bold design with expressive figures in an interesting format and the rarely seen full oban size.

Artist - Shigeharu (1803 - 1853)

Image Size - 14 7/8" x 10 3/8"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. A few small holes, repaired. Slight toning and soiling, a few creases and ink marks, rubbing at edges. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
