Modern Genji

The Four Seasons: Cherry Blossoms, 1861 - Charming scene of Mitsuuji, the Rustic or Country Genji, enjoying an afternoon of music on a verandah beneath a blossoming cherry tree. He sits on a cushion at right, grinning happily as he drinks a cup of sake and listens to the music. In the center, a beauty plays the koto while two other women strum shamisen. Trays of food are spread out across the floor, and a sake kettle can be seen just behind Mitsuuji. An attractive spring scene, nicely detailed.
