Original Kunisada III (1848 - 1920) Japanese Woodblock Print
Meeting at a Bridge, 1870

Comments - Handsome kabuki scene of three men meeting at the foot of a bridge. At left, a traveler stands beside a horse laden with small wooden chests. He frowns angrily as he looks up at the young samurai in the center, who stares back at him solemnly. The samurai wears a black kimono with a beautiful burnished geometric pattern, his hand resting atop the hilt of one of his swords. At right, a village headman leans forward anxiously with a grim frown. From left, the actors are Ichikawa Yaozo VII, Ichimura Uzaemon XV, and Onoe Matsusuke IV. An interesting design with large figures, detailed with fine line work in the hair and soft pink shading around the eyes.

Artist - Kunisada III (1848 - 1920)

Image Size - 13 5/8" x 27 5/8" + margin as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. Small tear at edge, repaired. Slight soiling and ink offsetting, a few creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
