Annual Events in the Fleeting World: The Second Month (Kisaragi)

Comments - Lovely scene of beauties in the countryside, gathering spring greens and herbs for making a special soup, a traditional custom to bring health and longevity in the New Year. The woman at right kneels down to pick a few plants, gesturing to the woman in the center, who has already filled her overturned hat. At left, a beauty relaxes with a pipe on the bench as a young boy approaches excitedly, clutching a cloth filled with greens. A blossoming plum tree frames a view of rice fields with a row of pine trees beneath a pink sky. A charming depiction of this traditional early spring activity, with an attractive landscape setting.
