Minamoto no Yorimitsu Takes Kintaro into the Party, 1857

Comments - Fantastic image of the powerful daimyo Minamoto no Yorimitsu and his party encountering the wild boy Kintaro in the forest. At upper left, Kintaro demonstrates his amazing strength by holding a tree up over his head, watching a bear that he had wrestled falling over the cliff, tumbling through the air. In the center, one of Yorimitsu's samurai stands atop a rocky outcropping, thrusting his hand out in a stopping gesture. At lower right, Yorimitsu watches from astride a dappled horse. Impressed with the boy's incredible feats, Yorimitsu took Kintaro home with him as a personal retainer. Kintaro became a famous warrior under the name Kintoki. A terrific image with a striking natural setting framing a view of Mt. Fuji wreathed in clouds in the distance.
