Springtime Haze with First Nightingale

Comments - Attractive look inside a house in early spring. At right, a beauty pounds something in a large pestle, assisted by a young girl, with various ingredients set out on the floor nearby. Behind her, a blue and white ceramic planter holds a bonsai plum tree covered with white flower and buds, while in a niche at right, a one-stringed zither leans against the wall. The woman in the center smiles happily at her companions, dressed in an intricately detailed gray striped kimono patterned with snowflakes. The room opens onto a garden, with a path of stepping stones leading past plants still protected from the winter snow with straw coverings. A charming subject with wonderful detail in the setting and household furnishings.
