Comments - Fantastic depiction of Kato Kiyomasa hunting tigers in Korea. Kiyomasa was one of the three senior commanders during the Seven-Year War with Korea, and had the opportunity to hunt the animals while there. Here, Kiyomasa deftly lunges to his side in the snow, gripping a pole arm and biting his lower lip in determination as he keeps an eye on the angry beast. The tiger growls and bares its fangs, its tail twitching above its back. A grove of bamboo frames the wintry gray sky. A dynamic, dramatic image, beautifully detailed with burnishing in the armor and embossing in the snow.

Artist - Chinsai Rosetsu (active circa 1890s - 1900s)

Image Size - 13 3/4" x 27 5/8"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. Slight paper remnants on reverse from previous backing. Thinning at corner, a couple small holes, repaired. Slight toning and soiling, a few spots and creases, slight rubbing at edges. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
