Morning Pilgrimage to Ryogoku for a Special Display of Images

Comments - Attractive image of three beauties on their way to view a special display of images at Ryogoku. The woman at right wears a gray kimono patterned with bands of tie-dyed motifs in blue, tied with a brocade obi. She smiles happily as she lifts her robe, revealing chunky wooden geta sandals. In the center, her companion wears a striped coat and has a blue and white cloth wrapped protectively around her head. The beauty at left carries a fan decorated with irises and a small bundle wrapped in cloth. A cloud-like border separates the figures from the rooftops of a shrine with tall banners and birds flying across the sky. A charming design with soft bokashi shading, also in the collection of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14" x 30"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Three separate panels. Vertical fold at right edge of each panel. Small losses at edges, a few wormholes and thinning spots, repaired. Slight soiling and rubbing, a few creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
