Pride of Tokyo--Famous Things

Pride of Tokyo--Famous Things - Attractive design from a rarely seen Kunichika series published from 1896 to 1897 depicting famous places, people, and products in Tokyo. Each print features a portrait of a beauty surrounded by a bamboo frame, with a scene above of a noted shop or restaurant, often with its famous product shown, and a kimono textile pattern at lower left. The title cartouche at upper right is surrounded by a folding fan and a colorful blossom. Beautifully printed with fine line work and soft shading, most images include deluxe treatments such as burnishing or embossing. An interesting series.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 13 1/4" x 8 7/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Toning, slight soiling, stains, slight rubbing at edges. Some prints have ink offsetting. A few have a couple small holes, repaired. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
