These terrific images include valiant samurai, brave retainers, loyal wives, and fantastic demons. Beautifully drawn with a wonderful sense of realism and finely printed with rich jewel-tone colors, these designs are a great example of Yoshitoshi's mature artistic style. A great choice for a Yoshitoshi collector.

Okubo Hikozaemon Tadanori Rescuing Tokugawa Ieyasu, 1881 - Fantastic scene of the noted warrior Okubo Hikozaemon Tadanori rescuing Tokugawa Ieyasu on the battlefield. Okubo was one of Ieyasu's most trusted generals, and after Ieyasu's siege of Osaka Castle, a temporary encampment was set up nearby. The camp was attacked, and Okubo risked his own life to drag his master to safety. An enormous explosion rocks the camp, sending clouds of orange and black smoke billowing up into the air, with orange shots streaking across the sky. Okubo lifts Ieyasu onto his back, grasping his arm over his shoulder, lunging forward to take the weight of the great leader. A dramatic design with fantastic color and wonderful detail in the armor and clothing. A terrific portrait of this samurai hero.
