Onoe Matsusuke IV as Goroji, 1920 - Incredible profile portrait of Onoe Matsusuke as the carpenter Goroji in the play "Kagatobi," staring down at the letter in his hands with a tight-lipped grimace. His expression is hardened with deep-set wrinkles, and an angry flush begins to spread across his face. He wears a striped blue and gray kimono with a black collar over a brown under robe, hanging open loosely at his chest. A powerful image of a man contemplating a significant message and determining his next move. Detailed with subtle black on black line work in the hair, soft shading in the face, and embossing on the end of the roll of paper. From a limited edition of 150 prints.
