Tao Yuanming

Series; Three Laughters at Children's Playful Spirits

Tao Yuanming - Terrific design from an unusual series featuring titles parodying an ancient Chinese legend called "The Three Laughers of Tiger Ravine." In this charming scene, a young boy frightens his mother with a devil's mask. She pretends to be afraid, holding her kimono sleeve to her face as his older brother laughs and gestures at the child's antics. The beauty wears a solid blue kimono tied with a green and yellow obi, and holds a slender pipe. Wonderful detail in the expressive faces. A rare subject to find in reprint.

Artist - Utamaro (1750 - 1806)

Image Size - 14 1/14" x 9 7/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Slight toning and soiling, a couple light stains. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
