Attacking a Young Monk, 1856

Comments - Dramatic kabuki scene of a commoner attacking a young blind monk as he travels through a mountain pass. He turns his head away as he falls backwards against the rocks, his arms flailing in a futile gesture of self defense. His assailant raises his sword above his head, glaring furiously at his victim. At right, another man scowls as he looks out the window of a rustic hut. A great outdoor setting with craggy rocks and rugged pine trees framing the action. A handsome composition with large expressive figures.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 13 1/2" x 18 3/4"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Two separate panels, backed with paper. Wormholes, repaired. Slight soiling, slight rubbing near edges. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
