Series; Supplement of Fifteen Actor Portraits in Various Roles

Onoe Kikugoro VI as Hayano Kampei, 1931 - Beautiful, emotive shin-hanga kabuki portrait of Onoe Kikugoro VI as Hayano Kampei in the classic drama "Kanadehon Chushingura." The ronin had been out hunting wild boar on a dark, rainy night. Hearing a noise in the dark he fires, then discovers to his horror that instead of a boar, he has killed a man. He looks up with tightly compressed lips as the realization of what he has done sinks in. He wears a straw raincoat over his kimono as rain slants across the night sky behind him. His gun is angled over his shoulder, the tip of the matchlock fuse burning orange. A poignant yet restrained image, beautifully capturing the mood of the character. A true masterwork by Natori Shunsen.
