Raiko Hunting Down Shuten-doji, 1847 - 1852

Comments - Fantastic triptych from the legendary tale of the Demon of Oeyama, the horrible Shuten-doji, who kidnapped young beauties and held them hostage in his lair on Mt. Oe near Kyoto. The great warrior Minamoto no Yorimitsu (Raiko) is shown disguised as a yamabushi or mountain monk traveling with his men to the demon's hideout. At upper left, red and green demons keep a lookout at the entrance to the demon's cave in the hillside, while below, a beauty washes a length of cloth in a rushing river. A terrific image with wonderful detail. A great dramatic image.

Artist - Hiroshige II (1826 - 1869)

Image Size - 29" x 14"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Three separate panels. A couple small holes repaired. Some soiling at edges. Some minor wrinkling. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
