Sake Ceremony at the Shogun's Palace - Handsome triptych of a group of daimyo and retainers receiving cups of sake during a ceremony at the shogun's palace. Three men sit in the center next to trays piled high with shallow sake cups, offering cups and pouring sake from long-handled servers for the lords who kneel respectfully before them with outstretched arms. A row of samurai waits quietly for their turn, as those who have completed the ritual pass by a servant at far left to receive a new kimono on the way out. A terrific view of this solemn event, with fine detail in the intricate fabric patterns and touches of burnishing.
Artist - Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)
Image Size - 13 3/4" x 27 7/8"
Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. A few wormholes and thinning spots, repaired. Slight soiling, a few small spots and light creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
