Comments - Charming triptych of children playing on a bridge in a palace garden. The boys run and chase each other over the arched structure, laughing and smiling gleefully. At lower right, two ladies-in-waiting assist the young prince, who wears a blue coat with a dragon pattern over a white kimono tucked into purple hakama pants. At upper left, the Meiji Emperor watches from the verandah. A lovely spring scene with flowering cherry trees and a pond edges with oversized peony blossoms. Rich vibrant color, nicely detailed with embossing in the white kimono collars.

Artist - Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 28 1/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. Paper remnants on reverse at corners from previous mounting. Small loss at corners, a few small holes, repaired. Creasing, slight soiling. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
