Threatening a Beauty, 1866 - Interesting kabuki scene of a commoner threatening a young woman with a sword. He raises the weapon above his head, staring at her with a malicious grin. The beauty reacts with alarm, throwing out her hand in self defense. She wears the white vest of a pilgrim over a pale yellow kimono and red tie-dyed under robe, her hair adorned with a red lacquer comb, ribbons, and a feathery ornament. At right, another man emerges from the bushing clutching a blue towel, scowling and watching the pair suspiciously. From left, the actors are Kawarazaki Kunitaro I, Ichimura Kakitsu IV, and Bando Hikosaburo V. Nice large figures with bokashi shading and handsome wood grain impression in the night sky.
