Twenty-four Accomplishments in Imperial Japan - Yoshitoshi's late series "Twenty-four Accomplishments in Imperial Japan" highlights important figures throughout the history of Imperial Japan, from both legend and real life. These terrific images include valiant samurai, brave retainers, loyal wives, and fantastic demons. Beautifully drawn with a wonderful sense of realism and finely printed with rich jewel-tone colors, these designs are a great example of Yoshitoshi's mature artistic style. A great choice for a Yoshitoshi collector.

Oishi (Kuranosuke) Yoshio, Chief of the Forty-seven Ronin, Leading the Attack on Moronao's Mansion, 1881 - Fantastic Yoshitoshi portrait of Oishi (Kuranosuke) Yoshio, the leader of the famous 47 ronin, beating a drum to signal the start of the night attack on Moronao's mansion. He stands proudly, raising the drumstick high in one hand, a spear leaning against his shoulder and his robes fluttering in the wind. Another ronin crouches behind him, looking cautiously over his shoulder. Beautifully detailed with fine line work, burnishing in the black robes and trim, and soft shading in the background. A terrific image from this handsome series.

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Backed with old paper. Slight toning and soiling, light ink offsetting, a few wrinkles. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
