The Bunka Era (1804 - 1817) - Handsome illustration of a beauty looking over her shoulder with a rather surprised expression. Her slightly open lips show off her blackened teeth, which identify her married status, as do her shaved eyebrows. Her hair is beautifully styled with soft wings at the side and a large bun held in place with a large comb and two simple hairpins. She wears a finely striped green kimono over two under robes in light brown and tan patterns. Wonderful detail in the hairline. The scene above shows street performers at New Year's playing the shamisen as two men watch out a window. At right, a dog steals a fish from a vendor's basket as he stops to listen to the music. A charming design with a lovely soft color palette and fine line work in the hair.

Artist - Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)

Image Size - 13" x 8 1/4" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. A couple small holes, repaired. Creasing, slight toning and soiling, light stain at edge, a few small spots. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
