Illustration of the Rebels Being Suppressed at Kagoshima, 1877

Comments - Action-filled scene of a battle during the Satsuma Rebellion between rebel samurai and the Imperial Army. In the foreground, an officer in a black uniform lunges at a warrior, grabbing him around the waist with a determined expression. The warrior seems to pay no attention drawing back his sword as bullets streak past. At upper right a soldier takes aim at the rebels, who fight valiantly. An interesting historic subject.

Artist - Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)

Image Size - 13 5/8" x 9 1/4"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Backed with paper. Horizontal centerfold. A couple smudges at bottom edge. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
