Nakamura Fukusuke I as Danshichi Kurobei, 1857 - Dramatic kabuki portrait from the play "Natsu matsuri" of Nakamura Fukusuke I as the otokodate Danshichi Kurobei washing himself at a well after killing his father-in-law during an argument. This fantastic image shows the bare-chested Danshichi just after the evil deed, rinsing the blood from his body with a bucket of water from a well. He rests on one knee wearing only a red loincloth, his sandal and kimono tossed on the ground nearby. His body is covered with an extensive tattoo, and his bloody sword is stuck into the ground at right. A row of trees separates the figure from the festival procession of the Osaka summer festival, where the murderer will soon disappear into the crowd. A great image of this famous character, with wonderful detail in the intricate tattoo, an attractive setting, and handsome color.
