Comments - Fantastic image of women warriors attacking uniformed government troops at Kagoshima during the Satsuma Rebellion. Their kimono sleeves tied back with narrow sashes, the women wield naginata against the swords of their enemies. At right, a woman in a green kimono charges into the enemy as she draws back her weapon, knocking two men off balance. The woman beside her pauses to tie a white strip of cloth around her wounded arm. At left, three officers arrive on horseback them, one leaning angrily out of his seat. An incredible image showing the wives and daughters of samurai who joined the rebellion against the Meiji government. A great choice for a samurai enthusiast, detailed with burnishing in the officer's black uniforms.

Artist - Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)

Image Size - 14" x 28 3/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three attached panels. A few small holes, repaired. Creasing, slight toning and soiling, slight rubbing at edges. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
