Preparing to Commit Suicide

Comments - Dramatic kabuki scene of a young man preparing to commit suicide. He pulls aside his robe as he grips a sword wrapped in white silk, staring over his shoulder with an angry scowl. At right, an older man looks up solemnly from the long letter he is reading. A cask of sake rests on the floor at right, and curtains shaded from blue to golden yellow hang in the doorway. From left, the actors are Ichikawa Sadanji I and Ichikawa Danjuro IX. An unusual subject with extremely fine line work in the hair and a nicely detailed setting.
