Beauties Enacting the Noh Play Dojoji, 1864

Comments - Interesting triptych depicting beauties onstage enacting the Noh play Dojoji. A shirabyoshi dancer stands in the center, smiling slyly as she looks up at the temple bell hanging at upper right. A nobleman sitting below grimaces at her angrily. He wears a blue and white robe with dandelions on the sleeves. Along the back of the stage, women in matching robes play drums and chant to accompany the actor. An intriguing subject, since Noh plays are traditionally performed by men. Includes embossing in the white kimono trim, and the white kimono and pants worn by the two seated monks at lower right.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 13 3/4" x 29" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Three separate panels. A few small holes, repaired. Slight soiling, a few creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
