The Nineteen Retainers of Yoshitsune, 1855

Comments - Terrific triptych of the great Minamoto leader Yoshitsune with his nineteen loyal retainers in traveling in his ship. Yoshitsune is seated in the center under the elegant black lacquer roof emblazoned with the paulownia crest of the Minamoto. He wears elegant robes, and holds a cup of sake in his extended hand. The warrior monk Benkei stands in the prow wearing a monk's mantle, shading his eyes with his hand as he keeps a lookout for enemies. Another retainer stands in the stern, scowling angrily. White-capped waves crash against side of the ship and tassels and banners flutter in the wind. A fantastic samurai subject with wonderful detail.

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 28 3/4" + margins as shown
