Comments - Terrific scene of women gathered in a palace interior, spending a spring day sewing. At right, a beauty measures out a length of cloth with a wooden ruler, smiling as she looks up at a companion holding an elegant blue kimono. In the center, three women work with needles and thread as they sit next to sewing chests, with two younger girls sewing on their own projects at left. Above them in another room, a woman irons a kimono flat using a long-handled pan filled with hot coals. The rooms open onto a lovely garden with a lake framed by blossoming cherry trees. Small insets above show pattern layouts with instructions for various garments. A handsome design filled with lively color and wonderful detail, such as the small child dangling a ball above a playful cat.

Artist - Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 28" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. A few small holes, a couple small tears, repaired. Slight toning, creasing, and soiling. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
