Private Harada Jukichi Opens the Hyeonmu Gate from Within the Fort at Pyongyang, 1894

Comments - Dramatic scene of Private Harada Jukichi opening the Hyeonmu Gate at the fort at Pyongyang to allow his fellow soldiers to enter. He appears to be bayoneted through the leg, bleeding heavily from the blade still stuck in his flesh, but he pulls the heavy wooden door open with one hand, still gripping his gun in the other. At the same time, he steps on the arm of a fallen Chinese enemy, preventing him from reaching for his weapon. Shots ricochet across the scene. A terrific heroic image from the Sino-Japanese War. The Boston Museum of Fine Arts has this image in its collection.

Artist - Toshikata (1866 - 1908)

Image Size - 13 1/2" x 27 1/2"

Condition - This triptych with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels, not attached at the seams. A couple smudges lower right panel. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
