Summer: Women and Children Catching Fireflies, 1894 - Beautiful triptych depicting a group of beauties and young children catching fireflies on a summer night. At right, a boy jumps up excitedly, throwing his hands in the air as a woman and girl wave their fans at the softly glowing insects. In the center, a small girl has batted a firefly to the ground, capturing it under her fan. At left, a beauty kneels holding an insect cage already filled with several fireflies. Behind her, a boy waves a bamboo stalk high overhead as dots of soft yellow light fill the evening sky. A charming design, rarely seen, with a lovely garden setting, a willow tree swaying in the breeze at right. Nicely detailed with soft shading in the sky and the silhouettes of trees and buildings on the opposite shore.
