These terrific images include valiant samurai, brave retainers, loyal wives, and fantastic demons. Beautifully drawn with a wonderful sense of realism and finely printed with rich jewel-tone colors, these designs are a great example of Yoshitoshi's mature artistic style. A great choice for a Yoshitoshi collector.

Kibi Daijin Seated at a Chinese Table, 1881 - Handsome portrait of the nobleman Kibi Daijin seated at a red lacquer Chinese table. Kibi was sent to China as an ambassador, spending nineteen years there. He is credited with bringing the game of go, the Chinese lute, the Chinese calendar, and the art of embroidery back to Japan. He is shown here quietly studying a go board, dressed in Chinese costume sitting on a tiger skin draped over an elegant red chair. A vase on the table holds magnolia blossoms. Beautifully detailed with a delicate burnished leaf pattern in the black robe. A quiet, contemplative portrait of this notable courtier.
