Original Hiroshige II (1826 - 1869) Japanese Woodblock Print
Crossing the Oi River, 1852

Comments - Fantastic depiction of travelers crossing the Oi River, the water crowded with porters carrying customers across the wide waterway. Several beauties ride sitting atop platforms, while at right, a woman reclines in a palanquin. Just below, a beauty sits precariously on the shoulders of a porter, clinging to his headband as he grips her legs in front of him. The snow-capped peak of Mt. Fuji rises above the opposite shore, and a red glow spreads along the horizon from the setting sun. A terrific image full of activity and interesting detail, attractively colored, with soft shading in the sky and water.

Artist - Hiroshige II (1826 - 1869)

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 28 3/4" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. Paper remnants on reverse at top corners from previous mounting. A couple small holes, thinning spot, repaired. Slight toning and creasing. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
