Seven Lucky Gods: The Treasure of Sake from Sakari, 1868

Comments - Terrific scene of the Seven Lucky Gods relaxing and enjoying sake from Sakari. At bottom center, the Goddess Benazaiten pours sake from a pitcher into a red lacquer cup haled out by Daikoku, his magic mallet resting on the floor beside him. Just above him, Ebisu brings in a large platter with a red snapper or seam bream on it. At lower left, Bishamonten looks up with an eager smile, and oversize cup of sake in his outstretched hand. The floor is scattered with gold coins, and the green border features the takaramono or precious things. A delightful image of these beloved deities, the colorful figures nicely set off by the deep blue background.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)
