Original Sumio Kawakami (1895 - 1972) Japanese Woodblock Print
Western Lamps and Jar, 1955

Tokyo Contemporary Collection - This print is from a large group of contemporary prints we recently purchased in Tokyo. With designs from a range of artists, including some famous and rare designs, this is the largest group of contemporary Japanese prints we have ever offered.

Comments - Interesting modern sosaku hanga design of two Western-styled oil lamps flanking a traditional ceramic jar. Sumio Kawakami was a self-taught artist, and began creating prints in 1920, becoming a well recognized member of the sosaku hanga movement. He often found inspiration in the foreign influence on Japan following WWII. A rarely seen artist and a nice choice for a collector.

Artist - Sumio Kawakami (1895 - 1972)

Image Size - 10 5/8" x 9 1/2" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. A couple light creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
