Playful Children: Boy's Day Festivities

Comments - Charming illustration of young children celebrating the Boys' Day Festival. At left, boys enact a daimyo's procession, with samurai flanking a nobleman with a tall black cap and a fierce glaive with a black issuing from a dragon's mouth. At right, a baby crawls towards them, his mother kneeling behind with her arms outstretched to catch him if necessary. Dolls of Shoki, the demon queller, and a general with a tasseled command baton flank a miniature suit of armor on a stand, and a rack holds samurai banners and standards. A great depiction of this annual celebration.
