Original 20th century Japanese Woodblock Print
Penguins and Japanese Antarctic Expedition

Comments - Fascinating image of penguins on a bank of snow, with a large ship flying a Japanese flag on the horizon in the distance. This woodblock likely dates from 1956 to 1962, when the Japanese icebreaker Soya made several missions to the Antarctic. A charming, historic design, wonderfully detailed with embossing on the bird's chest feathers. Published by Kyoto Hanga-in.
