Series; A Competition of Powerful Magicians, 1873

Nakamura Sojuro as Princess Sojuro, 1873 - Great kabuki portrait of Nakamura Sojuro as Princess Sojuro, looking up over her shoulder with a defiant frown as she easily dismisses an opponent armed with a sword, forcing him to this ground by twisting his wrist. She wears a blue violet kimono patterned with flowers, a folding fan, and ribbons over a white under robe and a suit of armor. Her long hair is pulled back into a low knot over her back, adorned with a small cluster of blue flowers. A handsome image from this rarely seen Kunichika series, detailed with embossing in the white kimono and fine line work in the hair.
